Some transformational stories from Bridges Academy under the aegis of Bridges Educational Foundation.
Mr. and Mrs. Rako : Mr. and Mrs. Rako (Name changed for privacy reasons) faced extreme poverty and rejection after their son was born out of wedlock in 2015. Struggling to survive, they sold fruits and vegetables and worked as daily wage laborers but were burdened with heavy debts. Their lives took a hopeful turn when Bridges Academy recognized their determination and offered them a chance to rebuild. Given training and guidance, they became school cooks and errand employees, embracing their roles with dedication. Over the years, their commitment grew stronger, and after nearly a decade of service, they overcame poverty, supporting their son’s education and paying off their debts. Now radiating prosperity and joy, the Rakos became symbols of inspiration in their community. They generously contribute to the well-being of others, exemplifying the transformative power of education and support. Their story stands as a testament to how hope and opportunity can reshape lives, making them beacons of hope for others.
Mr. Dhar : Dhar , (Name changed for privacy reasons) a skilled carpenter from a small village in Bengal, lived a challenging life as a daily wage laborer, moving from place to place to make ends meet. With a small family and a wife in poor health, his responsibilities weighed heavily on his physical and emotional well-being. The burden of providing for his daughter’s education and his wife’s medical needs took a toll on him. Recognizing his struggle, Bridges Academy stepped in to support him. They invested in his carpentry skills and employed him as a permanent staff member at the school. Dhar received training in fabrication work, complementing his carpentry skills. This newfound employment transformed him into a confident individual. With a stable income, Dhar could now afford better medical treatment for his wife. Moreover, he provided extra tuition support, enabling his daughter to excel in her HSLC exams, a feat that might not have been possible before. Through the support of Bridges Academy, Dhar’s life took a positive turn. He not only found financial stability but also regained his confidence. His daughter’s success in her studies brought him immense joy and pride. Dhar’s story serves as a testament to the transformative impact of investment in skills and employment, enabling individuals to overcome challenges and improve their lives and those of their families.
Mrs. Nema: Mrs. Nema’s (Name changed for privacy reasons) life has been a series of tragic incidents. Born into a poor family that relied on selling fruits and vegetables, she faced hardship from a young age. Her hopes brightened when she started her own family, but her husband abandoned her and their unborn daughter, leaving her to face extreme poverty alone. Despite the challenges, Mrs. Nema courageously raised her daughter single-handedly. She found happiness again when she remarried and had a son, envisioning a better future for her family. However, another tragedy struck when her second husband passed away, leaving her to care for their infant son by herself. In 2020, amidst the global pandemic, Bridges Academy learned about Mrs. Nema’s plight and offered her a job as a helper at the school. This opportunity brought a glimmer of hope back into her life. Her children, an 8-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son, both enrolled at Bridges Academy, where they could study together and receive a quality education. The academy became a refuge for Mrs. Nema and her family, providing solace during challenging times. With steady employment and her children’s education taken care of, she regained control over her life and could support her parents as well. Bridges Academy’s intervention became a beacon of light in Mrs. Nema’s life, giving her a chance to build a better future for herself and her beloved children.
These statistics and stories highlight the transformative power of education and entrepreneurial skills development in India.
