Kisangwala Longkumer of Bridges Academy from Mokokchung district won the state level science exhibition 2022 while Tsulun Kiumusu of Akum Imlong School Tuensang and Nyulem Konyak of Model School Mon secured the second and third places respectively.

The event, on the theme “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development” was organised by the department of School Education (DoSE) in collaborating with Samagra Shiksha Nagaland (SSN).

Speaking on the occasion, director School Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe said students must be motivated to take up science while they are young, so that they develop interest in the subject and not just choose it as a stream after class X.

He said there was also a need to have small laboratories in each school so that children were exposed to science and its activities which he said would ultimately inculcate interest in the subject.

Wonthungo stated that besides teachers, parents must also encourage students to take up science so that there would be more scientists and technocrats in the society in future.

He suggested that the event be conducted with more participation from Eastern Nagaland and to make the event a continuous process which would help engage students in science oriented activities and upkeep their skills and interests.

Meanwhile, deputy director DoSE, Limadangit Jamir in the chairman’s note said science and technology has emerged as one of the most important subjects of studies in all levels of education especially for school going children.

Such activities, he said would help students create new knowledge and boost the prosperity of human lives while also solving various issues facing the society today.

He informed that the main aim of the exhibition was to create a platform for students to sharpen their experimental skills, encourage scientific and technological creativity and help them share their information to others.

DoSE deputy director, Emilo Patton, assistant professor Kohima science college Dr. Rokovikho Dominic and PGT, RGHSS Kohima Tiawapang Kichu were the panel of judges of the event which was held virtually.
